Our top 5 in RI list is based on a few factors. All five share a common theme, and that is consistency. We have dined at each one of these restaurants for both sit in and takeout hundreds of times combined. They are truly in leagues of their own.
•Red Rice-Warwick #1

336 Bald Hill Rd, Warwick, RI 02886

Red Rice is a dine in spot for sure. It’s a beautiful restaurant. Amazing quality, very fresh and clean ingredients. This is my go to lunch spot. Their luncheon menu is great. Your choice of Egg Drop, Hot and Sour, or Miso soup, and a really large combination plate that comes with fried, steamed rice, or brown rice, a wing and & chicken drum stick, along with an entree. My play here is an order of steamed dumplings to start. Easily the best steamed dumplings next to the China Inn (Pawtucket) Red Rice has a lot of history to it, a migration from Seven Moons in North Kingstown essentially.
I go here once a week I’ve had many dishes from Red Rice including Hunan Chicken, Chicken with Lemongrass, Chicken In Garlic Sauce, String Beans with Chicken in Oyster Sauce, Nim Chow, and General Tso.
I am confident in saying that Red Rice top to bottom is the best overall restaurant in my Top 5. They do everything exceptionally well, it’s a beautiful facility with the highest of standards.

•China Dynasty- Cranston #2

400 Atwood Ave, Cranston, RI 02920

(Closed Monday’s)
China Dynasty is my childhood spot, I grew up on Dynasty wings, pork fried rice, beef lo mien, chow-mien, wonton soup, and boneless chicken (hold the gravy substitute for a side of dynasty sauce) from Dynasty. I think I’ve grown to love Chinese Food so much because of China Dynasty. It launched me into trying so many new places, with the curiosity to know if there can be any better spot, or if Dynasty is indeed the best. It’s a one of a kind place, one in which does something superior to the rest of the top 5, and it’s their oyster wings.
Forget everything you thought you knew about oyster wings, sticky wings, or whatever you’ve grown to call them. China Dynasty bar-none has the best oyster wings. Better than The Islander, better than Little Chop Sticks II (RIP) better than everyone. Make it a bucket list item. 1 order of Dynasty wings, 1 order of pork fried rice. Mix the oyster sauce in the rice, you’ll be eating the chicken bones. The wings are that good.
If you don’t like bone-in wings, as I mentioned above order the boneless chicken and brown gravy, hold the gravy, half a cup of dynasty sauce on the side. You’re welcome.

Cathay Garden- East Greenwich #3

363 Main St, East Greenwich, RI 02818
401-884-7776
So many great things about Cathay Garden. There is weeks We eat here two to three times a week.
Most of the times it’s takeout. Most of the times it’s L21 (General Tsao’s Chicken with white meat) 🌶Extra Spicy 🌶
Easily the best takeout spot. We don’t know how or why but they do takeout better than everyone. They pack it in. House duck sauce, and house hot mustard in the bag every time.
Cathay uses premium ingredients, always fresh. Consistency yet again puts Cathay Garden in the top 5, it’s a mortal lock every time.
Notable dishes include their chicken chow mien, boneless spare ribs, boneless chicken in brown gravy, wonton soup, and beef with broccoli. Cathay offers both lunch and dinner combinations (a huge plus) They also offer a dinner buffet, it offers fan favorites, and is of the same quality as the menu dishes. Fried wontons served with house duck sauce when you dine in. Cathay is a heavy hitter.

China Inn-Pawtucket #4

285 Main St, Pawtucket, RI 02860

China Inn has always had a mystique to it. It is inconspicuous enough on the corner of North Union St to drive by it your whole life and never walk through that red door. But once you’re in, you’re inn. China Inn does something better than everyone else. Steamed Dumplings. Best ordered for dine in, their steamed dumplings are out of this world. Served in a Bamboo steamer I started going here in 2001, and to this day it is the same exact place. The same quality, the same service. It feels like an experience. They also have what I believe to be the best lo-miens you can get any where. It’s not exactly udon, definitely not that spaghetti greasy stuff you find at malls, and not the flat noodle some other places serve. Great fried rice too. Honestly this easily could have been number 1. Don’t ask why it’s 4, As feel guilty. But we stand by our list.

House Of Wu- West Warwick #5

52 Providence St, West Warwick, RI 02893
401-828-7720
The West Warwick legend and classic. The greater 02893 House of Wu is a legendary spot. The most traditional American Chinese Food in the state comes through and rounds out the top 5. So much to say about the House of Wu. Consistency, great takeout, accurate, and never misses a beat. They do things their way, and their way is great. Dishes like General Tso Chicken (white meat extra sauce) sweet and sour chicken, the K combo which is their appetizer combo that comes with boneless spare ribs, boneless chicken, pork fried rice, crabrangoon, and an egg roll, and lastly their house fried rice which comes with everything in it (hold the shrimp) all comes together in what I feel may be the best of the best when it comes to American Traditional Chinese Food. What do I mean by American Traditional? Go and find out.
We recommend their combination plates. The combo menu is vast. It’s all cooked to order, super fresh. I am 100% sure you can find your favorite dish on there, without having to order À la carte.
When we think of Chinese Food, we think House of Wu.
