China Dynasty January 5th 2019

Wow! My first blog post and we are starting of with a BANG to say the least!

This place has eluded me since Glen began guiding me on this journey of Chinese food. For scheduling reasons we could never get here until today.

Cut back to New Year’s Eve, when Glen and I where having yet another conversation about Chinese Food, he explained to me that there was a slim to none chance I could order at that stage of the day, and be able to get my food within a reasonable time at any Chinese Restaurant never mind China Dynasty. He had me call Dynasty so I could hear it from the source.

At 4:30 pm on NYE they said it would be ready by 10:30 pm. I was blown away. Being from upstate New York, I’d never seen such a craze for one genre of cuisine. I was intrigued and drawn right in. I HAD to have some Dynasty Sauce ASAP to see what it was all about.

Needless to say, I now know why they’re fighting for the #1 spot. The Dynasty Wings combination plate had every piece necessary: the outstanding egg roll, the perfect consistency and flavor in the pork fried rice, and there is no words for the taste of the Dynasty Wing Sauce. I’d put it on anything.

Glen knows all the tricks, so he ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken Combo (hold the sweet & sour sauce) and in substitution he ordered a half a cup of Dynasty Sauce on the side for the chicken. He’s quoted as saying “It’s the lock move of the century” That will definitely be my move next time.

I’ll keep going back to China Dynasty until I’ve tried every dish. I can see why this spot has withstood the test of time.

Crossing Borders January 6th 2019

Today I crossed the border over to Massachusetts. Glen says “State lines need not apply when there is dumplings just over the line.” And so I went to Star Dumplings in Millbury MA.

This impulse decision to go for dumplings turned out in the best way it could have. A total sleeper spot. Star Dumplings is a little Chinese place in the same plaza with a gas station that was pretty empty on a Sunday. Great service from the guy at the counter, and direct table service from the chef. He brought out some of the best dumplings I’ve had. We had the soup dumplings, the pork dumplings, and the Szechuan hot oil chicken dumpling. Each one great with its own flavor, my favorite being the spicy-sweet hot oil chicken dumplings. If you’re a dumpling fan, definitely worth the trip across the border!! Probably 30 minutes north of Providence.

King’s Garden January 9th 2019

King’s Garden

We finally pulled into Kings Garden a few hours later than planned, so needless to say we were very hungry and ready for some great Chinese. Known for their Dim Sum, King’s Garden has a large menu with traditional dishes as well as small plates (dim sum). I have never done a full dim sum meal, but have dabbled in ordering select dishes, so I had an idea coming in as to what I should expect. I branched out and got adventurous with ordering. The ambiance was great for a Wednesday night, quiet enough but with some other groups diners sitting in. I cannot comment on the previous layout before it’s renovation as this was my first visit, but I liked the facility and cleanliness.

Overall, we had a good experience with the food. Glen knew what to expect going in, and I am always ready for anything! I went with multiple Dim Sum dishes: Shanghai Dumplings, Pork Buns, Sesame Red Bean Ball, and a bold move, Chicken Feet! I had to try them, didn’t love them but definitely worth it for the experience.

I was very content with the other Dim Sum offerings, and a sample of Glen’s Beef Lo Mein, proved to be my favorite item we tried. King’s Garden is one of those places that has a focus that you really don’t find at too many places in RI, and they do it very well.

Best,

Brian
