Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why do they give bread with my takeout order?

A: It’s not the Chinese Food version of a Twin Oaks dinner roll, and even though it’s great to dip the bread in house duck sauce, the main purpose is unique to Rhode Island and New England. It’s actually to make sandwiches. Yes you read that right.  When you are done with your dish, but have some sparse leftovers, it’s appropriate to make a sandwich with them.

Q: What kind of tea is served at Chinese restaurants?

A: The tea at Chinese restaurants is indeed unique. Most restaurants will serve you either Dynasty OoLong tea, or Jasmine tea.

Q: General Tso, Tsao, Chen, Gau, what’s the difference?

A: The simple answer is there is no difference. There was indeed a legendary General in which it was named in the honor of. The real difference is in how it’s prepared in each restaurant, and how they make their sauce. The name that particular restaurant uses plays no factor in elemental ingredients, or preparation of the dish.

Q: Why is Chinese so popular on New Years Eve?

A: The long standing tradition is popular in many places, but its really a New England thing, and a massive tradition in Rhode Island. It is my understanding that many restaurants would be closed for the holiday, yet Chinese restaurants would be open. It is good practice to place your order for New Year’s Eve few days in advanced to ensure you can get your order at a time of your choice. If you wait any longer you will be sorry. Typically the order slots that are left are well into the 10:00 pm hour, if they haven’t already cut new orders off entirely. It is the Super Bowl for these restaurants, don’t be left out.
